In a development that has captured national attention across Nigeria’s political and social spheres, Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has reportedly married Queen Zaynab Ngohemba, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.

According to multiple reports and family announcements circulating on social media this Friday, December 26, 2025, the union has been formally welcomed by the Dajoh family of Benue State—Akume’s extended family—describing the marriage as “beautiful” and “uncommon.”

Official Announcement and Family Welcome

The news was first made public through a celebratory post by Abraham Double-d Dajoh, a member of the Dajoh family, who took to Facebook to announce the union. The statement extended a warm cultural welcome to Queen Zaynab, referring to her with respect and joy as she was ushered into the Dajoh family home in Mbakor, Benue State—the ancestral seat of leadership for the Tiv nation.

The family statement also expressed appreciation to supporters of Senator Akume, urging them to continue their loyalty and well-wishes for the couple. They used the occasion to send festive greetings, wishing Nigerians a happy Christmas celebration and a prosperous New Year.

Clarifying Timing and Context

While the viral social media buzz tied the announcement to recent holiday gatherings, Akume’s spokesman, Yomi Odunuga, clarified that the marriage has reportedly been in place for over a year, contradicting assertions that it occurred on Christmas Eve.

This clarification sought to dispel misconceptions about the timing of the formal nuptials, emphasizing that the couple’s personal union predates the current festive period despite renewed public focus.

Who Is Queen Zaynab?

Queen Zaynab, also identified in some reports as Zaynab Otiti Obanor, gained widespread prominence during her earlier marriage to the Ooni of Ife. That union, celebrated with much public attention in March 2016, lasted approximately 17 months before ending in 2017. During that time, she was popularly known as Olori Wuraola.

After the dissolution of her marriage to the Ooni, Zaynab reverted to her maiden name and reportedly relocated abroad. Various media reports in subsequent years linked her to other personal developments, including an earlier reported marriage and the birth of a daughter.

Her new role as the wife of one of Nigeria’s most senior government officials has naturally drawn intense attention, blending royal tradition with political prominence.

Senator George Akume: A Brief Profile

Senator George Akume is a seasoned Nigerian politician. Born in 1953, he has served the nation in numerous capacities, including Governor of Benue State, Senator for Benue North-West, and Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs before being appointed SGF in 2023 under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Politically influential and widely respected in government circles, Akume’s personal life has occasionally intersected with public discourse—most recently through this high-profile marriage.

Public Reaction and Social Commentary

News of the marriage has sparked widespread discussion across social media, news platforms, and community forums. Some observers see the union as a symbolic merging of political and traditional royal narratives, while others focus on the personal journey of Queen Zaynab from regal life in Ile-Ife to her current role in a political family from Benue.

Public sentiment spans admiration, curiosity, and spirited debate, reflecting the broader social interest in high-profile relationships among national figures.

Cultural and Social Significance

The ceremonial welcome in Benue State highlights Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity and the continuing importance of family and community in major life events. The Dajoh family’s emphasis on tradition while embracing a bride of national recognition underscores evolving social norms in contemporary Nigeria—where royal heritage and political prominence coexist.

As the festive season continues, the marriage of SGF George Akume and Queen Zaynab remains one of the most talked-about stories in Nigeria’s news landscape, blending personal joy with national intrigue.
