Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited has announced the successful completion of a significant crude oil supply operation to the Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited.
This endeavour marks a pivotal step towards the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing domestic refining capacity and ensuring greater accessibility to petroleum products within the nation.
In a statement released by Abimbola Essien-Nelson, Shell Nigeria’s Media Relations Manager, it was revealed that over 475,000 barrels of crude oil were delivered to the Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited through Shell’s Bonny Oil & Gas Terminal.
The resumption of supply comes after a hiatus of more than five years, during which the Port Harcourt refinery underwent extensive rehabilitation and integrity maintenance on its supply pipeline from the Bonny Oil & Gas Terminal.
Dr. Osagie Okunbor, the Country Chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria and Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, expressed his satisfaction with the successful collaboration between BOGT and PHRC teams.
He emphasised the importance of leveraging key infrastructures to ensure a consistent supply of products to the Nigerian market.
The recommencement of crude oil supply from the Bonny Oil and Gas Terminal to Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited is lauded as a significant achievement with far-reaching implications for the industry and the nation. Osita Nnajiofor, the Bonny Terminal Installation Manager, highlighted the meticulous integrity and maintenance checks conducted prior to the supply operation, ensuring the safety of personnel, the environment, and equipment.
This milestone aligns with the Federal Government’s efforts to privatize the Port Harcourt refinery, as announced by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited. It is anticipated that such initiatives will not only bolster the economy but also contribute to the steady provision of petroleum products to the downstream market, fostering greater economic stability and growth.
