The trend of deploying autonomous police robot seems to be slowly catching up. Earlier this year, the New York Police Department (NYPD), announced that it will use police robots to patrol the city. Now, Singapore has revealed that it will use autonomous robots to patrol the Changi airport.
A report by TST revealed that the robots are fitted with cameras, sensors, sirens and more. The report mentions that Singapore had been doing trial runs with these robots for the last five years.
Based on the report, the robots have an extendable mast that goes up to 2.3 metres. Otherwise, their standard height is about five foot, seven inches. Further, they are fitted with multiple cameras that give a 360-degree vision field. This helps the officers in the police operation give a clear view of the what’s happening on the ground.
The robots are equipped with built-in speakers which allows Police officers to communicate with passengers. Also, they have microphones which allows passengers to communicate with human Police officers in case they need any help.
Singapore has been testing the use of patrol robots for a while now. In fact, it was first done in 2018 and then robots were also used for patrolling at the Marina Bay Sands area as well.
