Clement Ikolo, the traditional ruler of Ewu kingdom, has voiced his astonishment at finding his name among the wanted persons list in connection with the Okuama killings.
The tragic incident, which occurred on March 14, 2024, witnessed the loss of officers and soldiers from the 181 Amphibious Battalion during a peacekeeping mission in the Okuama community, as reported by GOVIMA
The Defence Headquarters, in response to this heinous act, has officially declared eight individuals wanted for their alleged involvement in the violent episode. Among those listed are prominent figures such as Prof. Ekpekpo Arthur, Andaowei Dennis Bakriri, and Clement Ikolo Oghenerukeywe, the reigning monarch of Ewu kingdom.
In a viral video released from an undisclosed location, the monarch vehemently refuted any connection to the killings, asserting his innocence. “To my greatest surprise, I saw my name on the list of wanted persons in connection with the crime,” he expressed. “Let me state here clearly that I have not been able to access my kingdom to date. I have no hand in the killings. This is a serious crime against humanity, and it is against my faith as a Catholic.”
Ikolo further elaborated on the tumultuous circumstances surrounding his ascension to the throne on November 16, 2023, highlighting the challenges faced during that period. He expressed shock at the government’s reaction, emphasising his willingness to cooperate with authorities in the investigation process to identify the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.
The monarch’s plea for a thorough investigation resonates with the call for accountability and justice in the wake of such atrocities, urging the authorities to delve deeper into the matter to unveil the truth behind the Okuama killings and apprehend those responsible.
