Southampton Secure the Signing of Arsenal Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for £25 Million.
Southampton have confirmed the signing of England international goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from Arsenal in a deal worth up to £25 million. The Saints will pay an initial £18 million for the 26-year-old, with a potential £7 million in add-ons based on performance-related clauses as reported by BBC.
Ramsdale, who has signed a four-year contract at St Mary’s with an option for an additional year, expressed his excitement about the move. “I’m absolutely delighted,” Ramsdale said. “The way the manager wants to play, the way he was when I spoke to him, he was just full of so much enthusiasm. I’d never met him before, but he made me feel about eight feet tall, which is just what you want.”
The former Sheffield United goalkeeper, who made 89 appearances for Arsenal after his £26 million move to the Emirates in 2021, was part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024. Ramsdale’s consistent performances have earned him five caps for the national team.
Southampton’s manager, Russell Martin, hailed Ramsdale’s signing as a significant coup for the club. “Aaron is a real statement signing for us,” Martin stated. “I’m very grateful to ownership and the board for making it happen, especially as so many other clubs were keen to get him.”
Ramsdale had been linked with a move to Wolves before choosing Southampton. Arsenal, meanwhile, are expected to finalise a season-long loan for Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto as Ramsdale’s replacement.
This transfer marks a major addition to Southampton’s squad as they continue to build under the guidance of Russell Martin, aiming for a successful Premier League campaign.
