A Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned Speed Darlington’s N300 million fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) until March 19.
The court made this decision after the police filed a further counter affidavit in response to Speed Darlington’s further affidavit. Speed Darlington’s lawyer, Rosemary Hamza, said she was yet to be served with the police’s counter affidavit.
Speed Darlington is suing the IGP for allegedly violating his fundamental rights. He claims that his arrest and detention were unlawful. The singer was arrested for allegedly defaming Burna Boy, a popular musician. He was granted bail but rearrested for allegedly jumping administrative bail.
Speed Darlington seeks his unconditional release and N300 million in damages. He also alleged that he was tortured and maltreated while in detention.
