Super Eagles Set To Begin AFCON Qualifying Campaign With New Coaching Team.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced a formidable coaching lineup as the Super Eagles prepare for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda this month.
Interim manager Augustine Eguavoen has appointed Fidelis Ilechukwu, the head coach of Enugu Rangers, and Daniel Ogunmodede of Remo Stars to join his technical team. These seasoned coaches bring their recent successes in Nigeria’s top football division to the national team. Ilechukwu guided Enugu Rangers to a triumphant campaign last season, while Ogunmodede’s Remo Stars secured a commendable second-place finish.
Joining them in Uyo for the preparation are Tomaz Zorec, a fitness trainer from Slovenia, experienced goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa, and match analyst Eboboritse Uwejamomere. This diverse team aims to strategically plan the downfall of the Cheetahs of Benin Republic and the Amavubi of Rwanda in the upcoming AFCON qualifiers.
The Super Eagles, three-time African champions, will commence their training camp in Uyo on Monday, leading up to their first qualifying match against the Cheetahs. The match is scheduled for Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, with kick-off at 5pm.
Following the match in Uyo, the team will travel to Kigali on Sunday for their second qualifying match against Rwanda’s Amavubi, set to take place at the Amahoro Stadium on Tuesday. The match is scheduled to start at 3pm local time in Rwanda (2pm Nigeria time).
As the Super Eagles gear up for these crucial encounters, the nation’s football fans are hopeful that the new coaching team’s expertise will lead to successful outcomes on the road to Morocco 2025.
