Super Eagles to Kickoff AFCON 2025 Qualifying Campaign Against Libya.

The Super Eagles will kick off their quest for qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with an away match against Libya. On the same day, Rwanda will host the Benin Republic. These fixtures mark the start of a challenging qualifying campaign for Nigeria as they aim to secure their place in the prestigious tournament.

Despite the groups for the AFCON 2025 qualifiers being drawn, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) did not immediately release the match fixtures. According to the format by CAF, the top-seeded teams of each group will play away matches against the third-ranked teams, while the fourth-ranked teams will host the second-ranked teams.

In line with this format, the Super Eagles will face Libya in their opening match. For Match Day 2, the Benin Republic will host Nigeria in what promises to be a highly anticipated and grudge-laden duel. Last month, Benin inflicted their first-ever defeat on Nigeria since November 1959. The Benin team is managed by former Nigeria coach, Gernot Rohr.

Nigeria’s last encounter with Libya in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers saw the Super Eagles emerge victorious with a 3-2 win in Sfax, Tunisia, following an earlier 4-0 triumph.

The Super Eagles, under the guidance of head coach Randy Waldrum, are determined to perform well in the qualifiers and secure their spot in the 2025 AFCON, set to take place in Morocco.
