TikTok has intensified efforts to protect women in the media industry from Tech-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV), reaffirming its commitment to online safety while strengthening corporate social responsibility initiatives.
The announcement was made during a roundtable in Abuja, organized in partnership with the Centre for Analytics and Behavioural Change (CABC).
Duduzile Mkhize, TikTok Outreach and Partnerships Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, said the platform is hosting a series of Women in Media Safety Roundtables across the region to better understand online threats and develop actionable solutions.
“As the digital landscape evolves, women and vulnerable communities continue to face unique online threats that could limit their expression and participation,” Mkhize said.
The roundtables provide a platform for those with lived experiences to share insights, enabling TikTok to co-create safety solutions with local communities.
“Through open dialogue and shared insights, TikTok is reaffirming its commitment to building a platform that uplifts and protects its diverse communities,” she added.
Beyond social impact, TikTok views the initiative as part of its broader CSR and business strategy. By learning from journalists and media practitioners on the frontlines, the company aims to refine safety tools, policies, and enforcement strategies to foster a safe, inclusive, and responsible digital ecosystem.
“We value the participation of the Nigerian media industry in helping us create a safe and creative platform not just for content creators, but for all users,” Mkhize said.
