President Bola Tinubu has sacked Fegho John Umunubo, his Special Assistant on Digital and Creative Economy, due to allegations of scams in the creative industry.
Umunubo allegedly used his position to strike dubious sponsorship deals with filmmakers and creatives, promising government support that never materialized.
One notable case involves a sponsorship deal with Arese Ugwu, creator of “The Smart Money Woman” series, where Umunubo promised N10 million for the marketing and premiere of Lara Unlimited, a spin-off of Ugwu’s work. The agreement included promotional rights for the presidency’s digital economy office, but Umunubo failed to fulfill the terms.
The presidency warned the public against engaging with Umunubo, stating that he no longer represents the Tinubu administration in any capacity. Anyone who interacts with him in the name of the administration does so at their own risk. The statement was signed by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House.
