Tinubu Congratulates Ghana’s President-elect John Mahama On Election Victory.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, on his victory in the recently concluded general elections. The commendation followed a concession speech by Mahama’s main opponent, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice-President of Ghana and candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a telephone conversation with Mahama, President Tinubu expressed optimism that his return to leadership would bolster stability within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). He commended the Ghanaian people for their steadfast commitment to democracy, as evidenced by the peaceful and successful conduct of both the presidential and parliamentary elections.

According to a statement from Tinubu’s spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the Nigerian leader praised Ghanaians for showcasing once again that democracy is the preferred path to achieving political stability, economic growth, social justice, and transparent governance in Africa.

“President Tinubu reaffirmed that the belief in the people’s right to freely choose their leaders is a cornerstone of the region’s democratic principles and a source of pride for all Africans,” Onanuga said.

Tinubu also applauded Dr Bawumia for conceding defeat before the official announcement of results by Ghana’s Electoral Commission, calling it a significant gesture that reinforced Ghana’s democratic values.

John Dramani Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s President from 2012 to 2017, has earned the trust of the Ghanaian people once more. Tinubu described Mahama’s return to the Jubilee House as a reflection of the nation’s confidence in his leadership and vision for the future.

Mahama’s extensive political career includes serving as Ghana’s Vice-President from 2009 to 2012, as well as holding parliamentary, ministerial, and deputy roles between 1997 and 2009.

President Tinubu pledged his unwavering support for strengthening ties between Nigeria and Ghana, citing shared history, cultural connections, and mutual cooperation as the bedrock of the relationship. He highlighted their shared commitment to Pan-African ideals, democracy, the rule of law, and regional economic integration.

He also expressed gratitude to Ghana’s outgoing President, Nana Akufo-Addo, for his exemplary leadership and contributions to the nation’s development and regional peace.

Looking ahead, Tinubu expressed his eagerness to work closely with Mahama’s incoming administration to further bilateral relations and foster progress across West Africa.

With Ghana’s elections concluded successfully, the peaceful transfer of power underscores the nation’s democratic maturity. Tinubu’s congratulatory message reflects a broader commitment to unity and cooperation within ECOWAS as the region continues to strive for stability and growth.
