Young. Proven. Reform-Minded.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has given the green light for Professor Segun Aina to step in as the new Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). This comes after Professor Is-haq Oloyede wrapped up his second and final term on July 31, 2026.

This appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to continue and enhance the ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s education sector by placing key national institutions in the hands of capable, innovative, and forward-thinking leaders.

At just 39 years old, Professor Aina is poised to make history as the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.

A Technology Expert With A National Mission

Professor Aina is a highly respected academic, systems engineer, and expert in digital transformation, boasting a wealth of experience in areas like educational technology, examination systems, cybersecurity, and institutional reform.

For over fifteen years, he has been at the crossroads of technology, governance, and innovation in the public sector, assisting institutions in modernizing their operations, enhancing transparency, and boosting service delivery through intelligent digital systems.

His recent appointment underscores the increasing significance of tech-savvy leadership in managing Nigeria’s vital public institutions.

World-Class Education And Leadership Training

Professor Aina kicked off his academic journey by earning a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent in the UK.

He then went on to achieve a Master of Science in Internet Computing and Network Security, followed by a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, also in the UK.

To top it all off, he completed the esteemed Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School, which really boosted his skills in executive leadership and institutional management.

From NYSC Member To JAMB Registrar

Professor Aina’s journey with JAMB kicked off during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year, where he had the opportunity to work with the Board and get a firsthand look at how Nigeria’s national admissions process operates.

That early experience provided him with valuable insights into the nuts and bolts of exam administration, student admissions, and the data-driven systems that support institutions.

Now, years later, he’s back to lead the very institution where his professional journey began — a full-circle moment that highlights his enduring dedication to educational reform and institutional excellence.

A Career Built On Reform And Results

Meet Professor Aina, a standout figure in the field of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife. He’s earned a stellar reputation for his innovative ideas, knack for optimizing systems, and commitment to driving technological reforms through policy.

At just 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in his field, showcasing not only his academic brilliance but also his significant influence in the industry.

Outside the classroom, he’s been a trusted advisor to both federal and state governments, helping them navigate digital transitions, design effective systems, establish cybersecurity measures, enhance operational efficiency, and modernize institutions.

Trusted By Major Examination Bodies

Professor Aina has worked as a consultant for several important examination and educational institutions, including:

  • The National Examinations Council (NECO)
  • The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB)
  • Various State Ministries of Education

In these positions, he brought valuable insights into ICT infrastructure, examination integrity systems, digital automation, and secure data management processes. His efforts have always been geared towards enhancing transparency, boosting efficiency, and building public trust in the administration of examinations.

Strong Professional Credentials

Professor Aina is affiliated with several esteemed professional and regulatory organizations, including:

  • The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN)
  • The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE)
  • The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
  • The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), United Kingdom

Building On The Oloyede Legacy

President Tinubu took a moment to commend the outgoing Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, for his unwavering dedication and the significant reforms he brought about during his time in office.

The President is optimistic that Professor Aina will build on those successes while also bringing in new ideas, enhancing digital innovation, and boosting operational efficiency.

The administration is looking forward to the incoming Registrar further reinforcing the integrity, transparency, credibility, and global competitiveness of Nigeria’s tertiary admissions system.

A New Chapter For Jamb

Professor Aina’s appointment marks a significant generational change and a daring commitment to innovation, skill, and forward-thinking leadership.

With his unique blend of academic brilliance, technical know-how, institutional insight, and a vision focused on reform, the new Registrar is set to guide JAMB into an exciting new chapter of technological progress and outstanding service.

His official start date is August 1, 2026.
