Tinubu Urges Nigerians To Pray Fervently For Troops Battling Insecurity.
President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to offer heartfelt prayers for the nation’s military and security agencies as they confront the ongoing challenges of terrorism and banditry. The impassioned plea came during a press interaction following Eid-al-Adha prayers at Dodan Barracks in Lagos on Friday, 6 June 2025.
Speaking to journalists, President Tinubu emphasised the importance of unity and compassion during this critical period. “We must pray hard for our troops to keep us safe,” he stated, acknowledging the sacrifices made by soldiers and security personnel on the frontline. “They are making sacrifices in the challenges that we face from terrorism and banditry today. We must pray for them specifically, remember their sacrifices, and continue to behave well as citizens.”
The President also urged Nigerians to embody the spirit of the season, which he described as one of sacrifice. “We should remember to pray and give to those who are very vulnerable,” he said, encouraging citizens to be their “brothers’ keeper” and show love to all. Tinubu stressed the need to rise above ethnic divisions, noting, “Whether you are Igbo, Yoruba, or Hausa, we must live above ethnic sentiments and unite as Nigerians to make progress.”
Among those present at the prayer ground were notable figures, including Mohammed Abubakar, Minister of Defence; Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy; Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence; Femi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Lagos; and Babatunde Fashola, former Governor of Lagos
.
The call for prayers comes amid ongoing efforts by the Nigerian military to curb insecurity across the country. President Tinubu’s message underscores the government’s recognition of the sacrifices made by the armed forces and the vital role of public support in bolstering their resolve.
As Nigerians reflect on this appeal, the President’s words serve as a reminder of the collective responsibility to support both the troops and the most vulnerable in society. The nation now looks to unite in prayer and action to overcome these pressing challenges.
