TotalEnergies MD Samba Seye Unveils AFCON 2025 Trophy In Lagos, Promoting Africa’s Unity And Sporting Spirit

The Managing Director of TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc, Dr. Samba Seye, has unveiled the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 trophy in Lagos, marking the beginning of a five-nation continental tour designed to celebrate Africa’s energy, unity, and excellence.

The event, held at Eko Tower 2 in Victoria Island, attracted sports enthusiasts, government officials, and representatives from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Dr. Seye described the event as a symbol of unity and pride for the African continent. “This is not just about football; it is about unity, pride, and the power of Africa to inspire the world,” he said. He added that TotalEnergies’ partnership with CAF reflects the company’s long-term commitment to promoting African talent, resilience, and creativity beyond corporate sponsorship.

According to Dr. Seye, the AFCON trophy tour aims to rekindle enthusiasm for African football ahead of the 2025 tournament scheduled to take place in Morocco. “Football is a unifying force that connects millions across Africa, and through this tour, we celebrate our shared identity and passion,” he stated.

General Manager of Retail and Cards, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, also noted that Nigeria was chosen as the first stop on the trophy’s tour because of its strong football culture. “Nigeria is a nation whose heart beats with football. Here, the game is not just a sport but a way of life,” he explained. The Lagos event included a parade of the trophy through major parts of the city  from Victoria Island to Maryland and Ikeja where excited fans turned out in large numbers to take photographs and cheer the convoy.

The AFCON 2025 trophy will continue its tour to four other African countries, including Angola, South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, and Morocco. The grand tournament itself will be hosted in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, with 24 national teams competing for continental glory.

Dr. Seye expressed optimism that the AFCON 2025 tournament will further strengthen Africa’s image as a land of creativity, sportsmanship, and unity. “Our commitment at TotalEnergies goes beyond sponsorship  it’s about inspiring Africa’s next generation through sports and excellence,” he said.
