Tragic Discovery Of Four Men Found Dead In Seine River Near Paris.

French authorities are investigating the grim discovery of four men’s bodies found floating in the Seine River near Choisy-le-Roi, a suburb south of Paris, on Wednesday, 13 August 2025. The bodies, all belonging to adult males, were recovered around 1:00 pm after a commuter on an RER C train spotted one of the corpses in the water and alerted emergency services.

Police and emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene, where they retrieved the first body. Further searches revealed three additional bodies within a short distance, one entangled in branches along the riverbank and another drifting with the current. According to reports, three of the men were fully clothed, while one was found partially unclothed, missing trousers and underwear. Authorities estimate the bodies had been in the water for several days before their discovery.

The Créteil prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation to determine the causes of death and the identities of the deceased, with the bodies transferred to the Paris Institute of Forensic Medicine for autopsies and identification. Preliminary findings suggest no immediate evidence linking the deaths, and investigators have noted that the river’s conditions in the Choisy-le-Roi area, possibly influenced by currents or a nearby weir, may explain why the bodies surfaced there.

Sources indicate that three of the men may be of African descent and one of North African descent, though these details remain unconfirmed pending forensic analysis. The French police have stated that no clear signs of foul play have been established, but all possibilities, including accident, suicide, or criminal activity, are being explored.

This incident follows a series of unsettling discoveries in the Seine, including recent cases of dismembered remains found in the region, raising concerns among local residents. The mayor of nearby Méricourt noted that such findings, while rare, have occurred multiple times since 2020, often attributed to the river’s flow patterns near locks and weirs.

The investigation continues as authorities appeal for information from the public to help identify the men and uncover the circumstances of their deaths. This tragic event has cast a shadow over the region, prompting renewed discussions about safety along the Seine and the need for vigilance in Paris’s surrounding waterways.
