Nacho Joins Saudi Pro League Side Al-Qadsiah.
Former Real Madrid defender Nacho has signed with Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah. The 34-year-old Spaniard, who departed the Spanish champions after 23 years on Tuesday, will officially make the move following Euro 2024, where he is currently representing Spain.
“These things don’t affect me in the games. I knew it for months and it’s made me enjoy things more,” Nacho commented, reflecting on his decision.
Al-Qadsiah earned their promotion to the top division last month by clinching the Saudi First Division League title. They are now set to strengthen their squad with the addition of the experienced defender.
The Saudi Pro League continues to attract high-profile players. Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in 2022, while Karim Benzema, another of Nacho’s former teammates at Real Madrid, now plays for Al-Ittihad.
Last summer, the Saudi Pro League’s transfer spending was the fourth highest among domestic leagues worldwide, surpassing Spain’s La Liga and Germany’s Bundesliga.
Spain will face Georgia in the last 16 of Euro 2024 on Saturday, and Nacho will aim to contribute to his national team’s success before embarking on his new journey with Al-Qadsiah.
