In commemoration of the one-year anniversary of the U.S.-Africa Leaders’ Summit, the U.S. African Development Foundation (USADF) proudly announces substantial advancements in fulfilling the commitments established during the Summit.

In a collaboration with the Government of Namibia, USADF recently concluded the application process for the inaugural round of funding, amounting to an impressive $10 million over five years.

This partnership is poised to provide grants aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), with a special focus on women and youth. The initiative is designed to stimulate sustainable development in the rural economy of northern Namibia.

Over the past year, USADF has dedicated $6.68 million in grant funding, supporting 38 projects across 14 countries through a series of Off-grid Energy Challenges. These initiatives have not only propelled agribusiness but have also empowered women leaders in the energy sector while improving energy access in healthcare facilities throughout the continent.

In line with the Biden Administration’s Digital Transformation in Africa Initiative, USADF is actively backing African entrepreneurs in technological innovation.

As the primary sponsor of the Competition, USADF has awarded a total of $185,000 in grant funding to finalists who are pioneering digital solutions in healthcare, trade, agriculture, and various other sectors within their communities. Moreover, through a recent collaboration with the Millennium Challenge Corporation, USADF has committed $300,000 to empower Ivorian women entrepreneurs with digital and data skills.

Expanding its reach, USADF has forged new partnerships with the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) Foundation, integrating additional players into the collaboration with a specific focus on socioeconomic development in their home countries.

Concurrently, USADF continues its support for the African Diaspora Network (ADN) by allocating $200,000 in grants for African entrepreneurs through the Builders of Africa’s Future (BAF) program.

Through these initiatives, USADF is actively investing in diaspora engagement, steadfastly pursuing its mission to empower African entrepreneurs for enduring, self-sustaining change on the continent

USADF, an independent U.S. government agency established by Congress, is dedicated to direct investments in African grassroots enterprises and social entrepreneurs. By deploying grant investments and market-based solutions, USADF aims to elevate incomes, revenues, and job opportunities while creating pathways to prosperity for marginalized populations and underserved communities across the continent.
