In a stirring address marking International Women’s Day, U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield heralded the resilience and courage of women and girls worldwide, emphasising the urgent need for global support in their pursuit of equality and justice.

Highlighting the diverse struggles faced by women across borders, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield underscored their pivotal role in shaping a brighter future, not only for themselves but for society as a whole.

Central to this vision is the imperative to invest in women, accelerating progress in areas such as education, economic empowerment, and sexual and reproductive healthcare.

Proudly affirming the United States’ commitment to gender equity, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield cited recent initiatives, including the launch of the U.S. Strategy to Respond to the Effects of Climate Change on Women and the U.S. Strategy on Global Girls’ Civic and Political Participation. Additionally, she noted the release of the first-ever U.S. Strategy on Global Women’s Economic Security and updates to the U.S. Strategy and National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security.

Within the framework of the United Nations, the United States continues to champion women’s equality, supporting initiatives such as the UN Gender Equality Acceleration Plan and advocating for inclusive language on sexual orientation and gender identity in UN resolutions.

As the world commemorates International Women’s Day, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield urged a collective commitment to ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women globally, affirming that such efforts are fundamental to building a better future for all.
