U.S. Applauds Arrival of Humanitarian Aid Convoy To Gaza Following Recent Terrorist Attack

International Community Joins Hands To Address Humanitarian Crisis In Gaza

The United States has welcomed the arrival of a 20-truck convoy carrying essential humanitarian assistance to the people in Gaza.

This marks the first major humanitarian delivery since the horrific terrorist attack carried out by Hamas on Israel on October 7th. The U.S. expresses gratitude to its partners in Egypt and Israel, as well as the United Nations, for their role in facilitating the secure passage of these much-needed supplies through the Rafah border crossing.

The arrival of this humanitarian convoy signifies a collective effort by the international community to address the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. The region has been grappling with severe shortages of food, clean water, medical care, and safe shelter.

The opening of this crucial supply route is a direct result of extensive diplomatic engagement by the United States in the region.

This was made possible through an understanding reached between President Biden, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi during the President’s recent historic visit to Israel.

Subsequently, Special Envoy David Satterfield has been actively working with the governments of Israel and Egypt, as well as the United Nations, to oversee the implementation of this aid delivery.

Calls for Uninterrupted Aid Access

The U.S. government strongly urges all parties involved to maintain an open Rafah border crossing to ensure the continuous flow of aid, which is imperative for the well-being of the people in Gaza. It is emphasized that Hamas should not interfere with the distribution of this life-saving assistance.

The U.S. government maintained  that Palestinian civilians are not responsible for the acts of terrorism carried out by Hamas, and they should not be subjected to suffering due to these actions.

President Biden has made it clear that any diversion or theft of this assistance by Hamas would demonstrate a disregard for the welfare of the Palestinian people. In practical terms, it would obstruct the international community’s ability to provide much-needed aid. The focus remains on protecting civilian lives and swiftly delivering assistance to those in need. The U.S. commits to working closely with regional partners to emphasise the importance of adhering to the law of war, supporting individuals seeking safety or offering assistance, and facilitating access to food, clean water, medical care, and shelter for Gaza’s residents.

In addition to the humanitarian effort, the United States is working urgently in partnership with Egypt and Israel to facilitate the safe exit of U.S. citizens and their immediate family members from Gaza.

Their travel route will take them through Egypt to reach their final destinations. The safety of U.S. citizens abroad is a top priority, and the U.S. Embassy in Cairo is ready to provide assistance to these American citizens.

The U.S. government is committed to tireless efforts, including collaboration with partner and allied nations with their citizens in Gaza, to ensure their safe departure from the conflict zone.
