In a meeting held in Nairobi, Kenya, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo engaged in discussions with Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade, and Industry, Rebecca Miano.
The meeting, held on April 24, 2024, delved into the realms of bolstering bilateral commercial relations between the two nations, encompassing various sectors ripe for collaboration.
One of the primary focuses of the discussion was the exploration of opportunities across multiple sectors, including the digital economy, infrastructure, agriculture, clean energy, critical minerals, and artificial intelligence. Secretary Raimondo lauded Kenya’s prominent role as a continental leader in digital transformation, highlighting the nation’s ambitious strides towards realizing its vision of becoming a green Silicon Savannah, a burgeoning center for technology and clean energy initiatives.
Both Secretary Raimondo and Cabinet Secretary Miano emphasized their mutual dedication to fortify the commercial and investment ties between the United States and Kenya. This commitment gains particular significance as the United States gears up to welcome Kenyan President Ruto on his forthcoming State visit next month.
The discussion expanded to include Eliud Owalo, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, alongside members of the President’s Advisory Council on Doing Business in Africa. Together, they explored avenues to advance U.S.-Kenya commercial relations, recognizing the immense potential for collaboration and mutual growth.
