Atletico Madrid took a narrow lead into the second leg of their encounter against Borussia Dortmund after edging the first leg by 2 goals to 1 in Madrid.

Atletico Madrid managed to maintain a narrow lead against Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final despite a late resurgence from the German side.

Diego Simeone’s team started strong at Estadio Metropolitano, with Rodrigo de Paul capitalizing on an early mistake from Dortmund to score in the fourth minute. Shortly after, Samuel Lino added another goal for Atletico, taking advantage of defensive errors from Dortmund.

Although Dortmund improved as the match progressed, it wasn’t until a fantastic save from Gregor Kobel and a goal from substitute Sebastien Haller that they got back into contention.

The game saw thrilling moments, including near misses from both teams, with Dortmund almost equalizing in the dying moments of the match.

Despite Dortmund’s late pressure, Atletico held on to their lead, giving them a slight advantage heading into the second leg at Westfalenstadion next Tuesday.

The match showcased moments of relief and frustration for both teams. Dortmund, initially overwhelmed by Atletico’s aggressive play, managed to regroup and stay in the tie.

Atletico, on the other hand, missed opportunities to secure a more comfortable lead but ultimately held firm defensively to secure the win.

The second leg promises to be equally intense, with both teams looking to secure a spot in the next round of the Champions League.
