Unilorin Launches Golden Jubilee With Anniversary Health Walk

The University of Ilorin has officially kicked off its 50th anniversary celebrations with a spirited Anniversary Walk, drawing a large turnout of staff, students, alumni, and friends of the institution.

The walk began at the University’s Main Gate on Monday, marking the opening of a year-long Golden Jubilee programme.

At the event, Vice Chancellor Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, expressed gratitude to the university community, saying their participation “is an affirmation of their commitment to the growth and ideals of the institution.” He described the walk as a symbol of unity and shared purpose.

According to a statement by the university’s spokesman, Kunle Akogun, Prof. Egbewole emphasized that the Golden Jubilee is meant not only to celebrate past achievements but also to showcase Unilorin’s readiness for future innovation and impact. The five-decade milestone is being used as a platform to highlight the University’s influence on education, research, and community development.

The Vice Chancellor also noted that the walk reflects Unilorin’s strong bond with its host community in Ilorin and Kwara State. He stressed that the university remains deeply invested in the socio-economic development of its surrounding environment.

Prof. Egbewole extended his thanks to development partners and friends of the University from around the world, whose support he said has been “tremendously” important to the success of the anniversary programme. He added that their collaboration continues to fuel the institution’s growth and progress.

The walk is set to culminate with a courtesy visit to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu‑Gambari, CFR. The Vice Chancellor described the visit as highly symbolic, noting the Emirate’s enduring role in the University’s story since its foundation.
