UNIZIK: Coalition Wants Tinubu’s Intervention In New VC Selection

A coalition of civil society groups under the platform of the Coalition for Accountability and Integrity in Education, CAIE, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing process for the selection of a new Vice Chancellor at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK, Awka, Anambra State.

The group accused a former Vice Chancellor of attempting to manipulate the process through a lawsuit filed at the National Industrial Court in Awka, challenging the recent advertisement for the position.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Mrs. Ngozi Ekeoma, the coalition alleged that the suit, identified as NICN/AWK/51/2025, was a plot to revive a previously nullified selection process that had been cancelled by President Tinubu in 2024.

Ekeoma claimed that Professor Anthony Chukwudi Okoye was acting as a front for the former Vice Chancellor, who is allegedly seeking to return to power “through the back door” despite the dissolution of the previous governing council.

She described the move as a direct challenge to the authority of the President as the Visitor to the university, warning that such actions could destabilize the institution and undermine its integrity.

The coalition urged President Tinubu to ensure transparency and fairness in the new selection process, emphasizing that political interference and legal distractions could derail the university’s academic progress.
