UNN Bans Social Events On Campus Beyond 6 PM

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has banned all social events on campus that extend beyond 6 PM.

The directive, contained in a statement signed by Mr. Inya Egwu, the Acting Public Relations Officer, comes in the wake of a tragic incident on September 12, when a businessman, Chiebonam Nweze, also known as Power-Autos, was reportedly stabbed to death. Nweze was attending a bonfire night organized by the students’ association of the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies.

UNN management stated that future social activities must take place strictly during the daytime and under the supervision of the University Security Unit. “Social events of any kind will not be permitted on our campuses beyond 6:00 PM henceforth,” the statement said.

The university noted that the bonfire event was hijacked by miscreants from a neighboring community, who provoked violence. The management assured the public that UNN remains committed to providing a safe and secure environment and will take every necessary measure to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
