Urgent Call For Self-Defence In Benue As Barbaric Killings By Herdsmen Continues.
A prominent religious leader, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has issued a passionate plea for the people of Benue State to take up self-defence amid what he describes as “evil, barbaric, and a mayhem” unfolding in the region. In a striking post on X, the cleric, known as @APOSTLESULEMAN, has criticised the federal government’s handling of security, urging officials to admit their shortcomings and allow citizens to protect themselves.
Apostle Suleman highlighted the constitutional right to self-defence, stating that the current situation in Benue, as well as in Jos, is intolerable. “We can’t watch this continue,” he wrote, calling on the people of Benue to defend themselves against the ongoing violence. He expressed dismay at the scale of the crisis, describing it as a betrayal of the government’s duty to its citizens.
The cleric’s comments come at a time of heightened concern, with reports suggesting that the security architecture has failed to curb the unrest. “It’s ridiculous that people are thinking of 2027 whilst mayhem is being unleashed in 2025 on citizens they are supposed to govern,” he added, questioning the loss of humanity among those in power.
Apostle Suleman concluded with a poignant lament: “There was a country,” a phrase echoing a famous line from Chinua Achebe’s novel, hinting at a perceived decline in national stability. His remarks have sparked widespread discussion online, with many calling for urgent action to address the escalating crisis in Benue State.
For now, the federal government has yet to respond to the cleric’s demands, leaving the people of Benue in a state of uncertainty as they grapple with the ongoing turmoil.
