The United States military has started delivering much-needed aid to the besieged Gaza Strip.
According to CNN, trucks carrying humanitarian aid began moving ashore through a newly constructed floating pier, established by the US military on Gaza’s coastline. This pier, anchored to a beach on Thursday, will serve as a vital conduit for aid from various countries, addressing the severe humanitarian crisis in the region.
With all other border crossings into Gaza closed, the floating pier represents a crucial lifeline for the delivery of essential supplies. The US, which initiated the $320 million construction project in late April, has stressed that the pier is a temporary structure dedicated solely to humanitarian purposes. The pier will facilitate the distribution of aid commodities donated by several countries and humanitarian organizations.
The delivery process begins with aid arriving in Cyprus, from where it is shipped to a floating platform near Gaza’s coast. From this platform, the aid is transported to the floating pier and then loaded onto trucks for distribution on land. This innovative method aims to bypass the logistical challenges posed by the closed border crossings.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that no US troops have set foot in Gaza as part of this operation, emphasizing the purely humanitarian nature of the initiative.
