In a statement on World Humanitarian Day 2024, U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken honored the relentless dedication and bravery of humanitarian aid workers across the globe.
Observed on August 21, the day serves as a reminder of the immense sacrifices made by those who risk their lives to provide critical aid in some of the world’s most dangerous and challenging environments.
“Humanitarian crises continue to put far too many people in harm’s way, making humanitarian work more crucial—and perilous—than ever,” Blinken stated. He highlighted that 280 humanitarian workers lost their lives last year while selflessly assisting others, marking the deadliest year on record for these frontline heroes.
The U.S. reaffirmed its commitment to addressing global humanitarian crises through coordinated international responses and active diplomatic engagement.
Blinken called on global donors to increase their contributions and invited new partners to collaborate in meeting the growing needs of vulnerable populations.
