USAFRICOM’s General Michael Langley and Senior Enlisted Leader Sgt. Maj. Michael Woods concluded a strategic tour across East Africa, solidifying ties with key nations from January 22-25.
Their journey commenced in Nairobi, Kenya, where discussions with Minister of Defense Aden Duale and Chief of Defence Gen. Francis Ogola focused on bolstering bilateral security relationships.
Troop engagements at Manda Bay underscored the enduring partnership between U.S. forces and Kenyan military.
General Langley expressed gratitude, stating, “We reaffirmed our strong bilateral security relationship and discussed areas for future cooperation.”
Venturing into Somalia, the USAFRICOM leaders engaged in talks with Somali President Hasan Sheikh Mohamud and Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding, emphasizing collaborative security efforts.
Meetings with African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) officials highlighted USAFRICOM’s commitment to Somalia’s stability.
“In my discussions with Amb. Mohammed Souef and Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding, USAFRICOM reaffirms its dedication to supporting the Federal Government of Somalia,” said General Langley.
The delegation’s journey continued to Djibouti, where they visited Camp Lemonnier, engaging with embassy officials and troops.
The U.S. Africa Command’s 3D approach—leveraging diplomacy, development, and defense collaboration—was highlighted throughout the visit, showcasing a comprehensive strategy to promote regional security, stability, and prosperity.
General Langley and Sgt. Maj. Woods returned to Stuttgart on January 25, marking the successful conclusion of their diplomatic mission in Africa.
