Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for New York to represent Nigeria at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
His trip, which commenced on Sunday, follows a directive from President Bola Tinubu, who has tasked the Vice President with leading Nigeria’s delegation at the global forum.
According to a statement by the Vice President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national address, engage in key discussions, and participate in bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the event.
President Tinubu remains in Nigeria to focus on addressing critical domestic issues, including the country’s recent flood disaster.
The high-level General Debate, under the theme “Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations,” will take place from September 24 to September 28, 2024.
