Ikpeba Urges Super Eagles to Rise Against South Africa and Benin

Former international footballer Victor Ikpeba has issued a stern warning to the Super Eagles, stressing the critical importance of upcoming matches against South Africa and Benin in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture.

With Nigeria facing challenges after drawing their initial games, Ikpeba emphasized the necessity for the team to elevate their performance and secure vital victories.

The Super Eagles, under the leadership of Finidi George, have encountered a rocky start in Group C, securing only two points from draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe. Currently placed third in the group, the team faces a pivotal moment as they strive to climb the standings and secure their World Cup qualification.

Ikpeba, a member of the Nigeria Football Federation’s technical committee, emphasized the significance of the forthcoming matches, particularly highlighting the clash against South Africa as a defining moment for the team.

“The game against South Africa is the game of our lives,” declared Ikpeba during Supersports Monday Night Football. He acknowledged the talent and potential within the Super Eagles squad, citing their recent AFCON final appearance as evidence of their capabilities.

Ikpeba urged the players to remain focused, determined, and willing to make sacrifices to secure victory against South Africa. While acknowledging the challenges ahead, he remained optimistic about the team’s prospects, emphasizing that with dedication and effort, success is achievable.

The Super Eagles’ journey begins with a crucial home match against South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, June 7. Subsequently, they will face Benin at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan three days later, setting the stage for intense competition and the opportunity for Nigeria to assert its dominance on the international stage once again.
