WAEC Revokes Licences Of 574 Schools over Examination Malpractice.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has withdrawn the recognition of 574 secondary schools across Nigeria due to their involvement in examination malpractice.
The announcement was made by the Head of the Nigeria National Office, Dr Amos Dangut, during a press briefing held at WAEC’s headquarters in Lagos.
Dr Dangut revealed that the affected schools will no longer be allowed to serve as examination centres for any WAEC-administered assessments, following proven cases of malpractice.
“This year, we have shared with them a total of 574 schools that have had their recognition withdrawn. These centres have had their licences revoked and will not be recognised for the conduct of WAEC examinations,” he stated.
Speaking ahead of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), Dr Dangut disclosed that a total of 1,973,253 candidates from 23,554 schools have registered to sit the examination.
Out of this number, 979,228 are male candidates while 994,025 are female.
WAEC reiterated its commitment to upholding the integrity of its examinations, assuring stakeholders that the council will continue to enforce strict measures to prevent malpractice and safeguard the credibility of its certificates.
