Wike Revokes Lands Of Prominent Nigerians Over Unpaid Fees.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken decisive action by revoking land allocations belonging to several prominent individuals and organisations in Maitama II, Abuja, due to non-payment of Certificate of Occupancy fees.
Among those affected by the revocation are former President Muhammadu Buhari, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume. In total, 759 individuals and organisations were impacted by the decision.
The announcement was made in a publication issued by the FCT Administration through the Special Adviser to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka.
In a related development, the minister issued a stern warning to other landowners, including Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Kingsley Chinda, former Senate Presidents Iyorchia Ayu and Ameh Ebute, and Senate Chief Whip Tahir Monguno. A further 610 individuals were given a two-week ultimatum to settle outstanding Certificate of Occupancy fees or face the revocation of their lands.
This action follows months of appeals by Wike urging residents, particularly those in prime areas of the capital, to comply with payment obligations. The minister’s move underscores the administration’s commitment to enforcing compliance and ensuring accountability in the nation’s capital.
The FCT Administration reiterated its stance that all landowners must fulfil their financial responsibilities to avoid similar consequences.
