The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to governors against any attempts to take over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure in Rivers State.
Speaking at the PDP Secretariat in Port Harcourt during the party’s state congress, Wike vowed to fiercely resist any governor who tries to interfere in the ongoing crisis within the party in the state.
The warning comes after a meeting of PDP governors in Taraba State on August 23, where they discussed the crisis affecting the party in Rivers State and expressed support for Governor Sim Fubara.
In a communiqué delivered by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, the governors called for a review of the state congress’s outcome to reinstate Fubara’s leadership role.
Condemning this intervention, Wike urged the PDP governors to stay out of Rivers State affairs. “Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of PDP from us,” Wike declared. “I hear some governors say they will take over the structure and give it back to someone. I pity those governors because I will set fire in their states.”
Wike further cautioned, “When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace. Whatever you see, you take. Because I heard they got some money from a signature bonus, and their heads are getting big, thinking they can meddle in my state. Prepare, because I have the capacity to do the same in your state.”
He concluded his fiery remarks by warning, “Whether you are from Bauchi or any other state, as long as you try to interfere in Rivers State, your hand will get burnt, and you will never sleep peacefully in your state.”
