Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has rejected allegations by activist Omoyele Sowore that President Bola Tinubu and Minister Wike plotted to assassinate him.
In a statement on Saturday, September 20, 2025, in Abuja, Olayinka described Sowore’s claims as “mind games” and a tactic to sustain his lifestyle. He stressed that neither President Tinubu nor Minister Wike had any reason or motive to target the activist.
Olayinka suggested that any threats Sowore may have faced could stem from people he had previously blackmailed. He advised the activist to focus on defending himself in his ongoing criminal trial rather than making “reckless allegations” against national leaders.
The minister’s aide further dismissed Sowore’s recent criticisms of Wike as “the last kick of a dying horse” and an attempt to “play the victim” ahead of the consequences of his legal battles. He reiterated that the accusations of an assassination plot were baseless, insisting that Sowore’s past controversies were the real source of his current troubles.
