Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed the dismissal of head coach Vitor Pereira following a disappointing start to the Premier League season, which saw the club fail to win any of their opening ten matches.
The poor run of results left Wolves rooted to the bottom of the league table with just two points, prompting the management to act.
The final blow came after a 3 to 0 defeat to Fulham, a result that further deepened frustration among fans. Supporters were reported to have shown clear signs of dissatisfaction during the game. Speaking after the match, Pereira admitted his side struggled to compete, saying “Today I felt my team physically were not in condition, not at the level to face Fulham.”
Pereira took charge of Wolves in December 2024 when the club was battling relegation and managed to guide them to safety at the end of last season. His impressive turnaround earned him a contract extension in September 2025 and raised expectations for a stronger campaign this season.
However, the current season told a different story as Wolves recorded the highest number of goals conceded in the league and one of the lowest scoring returns. The club found itself eight points away from safety, leading to internal concerns about the direction of the team under Pereira’s leadership.
Wolves chairman Jeff Shi expressed appreciation for Pereira’s contributions but acknowledged that results were well below expectations. He described the early season performance as a major disappointment and stated that a change in leadership was necessary to give the team a chance to recover.
Following his departure, eight members of his coaching staff also left the club. In the meantime, academy coaches James Collins and Richard Walker have been placed in temporary charge of the first team as the club begins the search for a new permanent manager.
