250 Elderly Citizens In Kogi Benefit From Oluremi Tinubu’s Empowerment Scheme.

In a bid to support senior citizens across Nigeria, 250 elderly individuals in Kogi State have benefited from the second phase of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Elderly Support Scheme, spearheaded by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

The beneficiaries, aged 65 and above, were drawn from the 21 Local Government Areas in the state. The programme, which aims to enhance the welfare of elderly citizens, saw each recipient receive ₦200,000 alongside access to free medical check-ups and other items.

At the presentation ceremony held at the Government House in Lokoja, the First Lady, represented by Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, wife of the Kogi State Governor, announced that approximately ₦2 billion would be disbursed across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

She revealed that RHI Coordinators in each state, the FCT, and the Defence and Police Officers Wives’ Association (DEPOWA) had been allocated ₦50 million each to implement the programme. “The funds and accompanying services are aimed at supporting the elderly as they navigate retirement and old age,” Senator Tinubu said.

The initiative is designed to provide annual support for the welfare of elderly citizens nationwide. Senator Tinubu emphasised the importance of prioritising healthcare, encouraging beneficiaries to take advantage of regular medical check-ups offered through the scheme.

“This programme is a testament to our commitment to ensuring that the senior citizens in our society receive the care and support they deserve,” she stated.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the assistance, with many commending the government for addressing the challenges faced by the elderly. The RHI Elderly Support Scheme continues to serve as a vital platform for uplifting vulnerable members of society.
