The opposition coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed rumors suggesting plans to abandon the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in favor of the newly approved All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, clarified that the coalition remains committed to the ADC as its platform for the 2027 general elections. He attributed the circulating rumors to forces attempting to destabilize the opposition and create a one-party state in Nigeria.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently announced the approval of 14 political associations, including ADA, to proceed to the next stage of registration as political parties. This development has led to speculations about the opposition coalition’s future political alignment. However, Abdullahi emphasized that the ADC is the coalition’s chosen platform, and there are no plans to switch allegiance.
The coalition, which includes prominent figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, aims to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 elections. David Mark, the interim chairman of the alliance, reiterated the commitment to the ADC, stating that the coalition’s goal is to prevent Nigeria from becoming a one-party state.
Despite internal discussions and external pressures, the opposition coalition has reaffirmed its dedication to the ADC, aiming to present a united front in the 2027 general elections.
