A devastating two-storey building collapse occurred in the Alimosho area of Lagos State, leaving one person injured and six others rescued.
The collapse happened around 6 p.m. at 4, Modupeola Street, Mangoro bus stop, according to Lagos Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso.
The cause of the incident is yet to be determined, and officials have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse. Emergency responders, led by the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, swiftly arrived at the site and rescued six people, including one trapped victim who suffered a fracture and bruises.
The rescued victims were taken to a nearby private hospital for treatment, while the trapped victim was transported to LASUTH Surgical Emergency by LASAMBUS. According to Omotoso, the patient arrived in stable condition, and doctors immediately admitted him for further care. The 44-year-old victim resides at 10, Olabode Street, Alimosho.
The Lagos State government has assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the collapse. The government has also commended the swift response of emergency responders, who were able to rescue the victims in a timely manner. “The LASEMA and other first responders got to the scene in good time. They rescued a trapped victim and five others from the rubble,” Omotoso said.
The incident has raised concerns about building safety in the state, and the government is expected to take measures to prevent such incidents in the future. The investigation into the collapse is ongoing, and officials will work to determine the cause and prevent similar incidents from occurring.
