Former Abia State Governor and Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared himself the most influential politician from the South-East, insisting that Labour Party’s Peter Obi is not his leader.
Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial District, made the statement while speaking on Channels Television. He maintained that his loyalty lies solely with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and not with the Labour Party or Peter Obi.
“Let me be honest with you, I’m a member of the APC and I don’t want to discuss Peter Obi for any reason,” Kalu said. “Ask me about the leader of my party, and I will answer you, whether the question is right or wrong.”
The former governor also said he would only be willing to discuss Obi in a public debate where both of them would be present. “Any day you want me to discuss Peter Obi, give us two hours, put him there and put me here, and we’ll sort it out,” he stated.
Reacting to suggestions that Obi is the political leader of the South-East, Kalu dismissed such claims, insisting he remains the most important politician in the region. “He is not my leader; I am the most important politician from that zone,” he declared.
Kalu further cited his political record, recalling that he once governed two states under the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) and contested the 2007 presidential election where he scored 4.9 million votes. He added that the appointments his party secured under late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s administration reflected his lasting influence in national politics.
