Fayose Predicts More PDP Governors Will Quit Party Soon

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has said that three more governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are preparing to leave the opposition party.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Fayose said this while reacting to the recent resignation of Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri from the PDP. According to him, the defection wave is a sign that the party’s internal crisis is deepening and may leave it with only five governors.

“Let me tell you, there are three more governors that will leave soon. There will be five remaining. The five remaining, one of them will struggle to catch the ticket, and they all know that the ticket is an ordinary tissue paper,” Fayose stated.

He accused some PDP governors of contributing to the party’s downfall through their quest for total control of the party’s structure, saying their selfish interests have weakened the party’s foundation. “They are largely killing the party because they want to control it. This is what happened in 2023,” he said.

Fayose also dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu was forcing PDP governors to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that the defections were driven by personal ambition and political survival rather than pressure from the presidency. “President Tinubu should not be blamed for PDP’s problems. The PDP is sick and remains perpetually sick without a cure in view,” he added.

He maintained that the PDP’s current crisis is a result of betrayal and internal sabotage by some of its leaders. “Those who killed the party know themselves. There is a difference between a former governor and a sitting governor,” Fayose concluded.
