Tinubu’s Communication Vision Focused On Rebuilding Public Trust – Minister

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s communication strategy under the Renewed Hope Agenda is designed to restore public trust in governance.

Speaking in Abuja, Idris explained that effective and responsible communication remains the foundation for rebuilding citizens’ confidence in government actions and policies.

Idris made the statement at the unveiling of the World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) “Abuja 2026,” an event organized by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and scheduled to take place in Nigeria next year. The event, which was held at the Nigerian Air Force Conference Centre in Abuja on Monday, attracted public relations professionals and communication experts from different sectors.

Highlighting Nigeria’s readiness to host the global forum, the minister stressed that communication is one of the most powerful forces in shaping societies. “The power and paradox of communication is at the heart of humanity. It builds bridges, shapes nations, and drives change. But it also has the power to divide, distort, and destroy when misused,” Idris said.

He added that in today’s digital and interconnected world, information travels faster than truth, which makes responsible communication more important than ever. “In our digital age, the speed of information has surpassed the speed of reflection. Words now travel faster than thought, and opinions often outrun truth. Responsible communication is not merely about what we say; it is about how, why, and to what end we say it. It is about truth, empathy, and service to the public good,” he stated. Idris noted that these values align with the moral compass of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to rebuild trust between government and citizens through openness, engagement, and shared purpose.

Also speaking, Senator Osita Izunaso, representing the National Assembly, urged organizers to ensure synergy and proper coordination to project Nigeria’s positive image before, during, and after the event. He called on government agencies to refurbish federal secretariat buildings, particularly around Eagle Square, where major activities are expected to hold, and advised airport and security personnel to maintain professionalism that reflects the country’s hospitality.

President of the NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, commended the federal government for its commitment to strengthening public relations and communication ethics. He said Nigeria has made notable progress under the current administration, especially in the aviation sector, and emphasized that the 2026 forum will further establish Nigeria as a global hub for professional communication excellence.
