The Kano State Hisbah Board has commenced actions to facilitate the marriage of two popular TikTok content creators, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, following a directive from a magistrate court.
The court ordered the duo to marry within 60 days after their viral videos were deemed “indecent” by the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board.
Deputy Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen, confirmed that arrangements are underway. He stated, “We have reached out to the bride’s family to obtain consent, and all necessary preparations will be completed to ensure compliance with the court order.” Health screenings, including tests for drugs, HIV, and genotype compatibility, are being conducted for both individuals.
The court’s directive mandates that the Hisbah Board finalise dowry arrangements and accommodation for the couple to ensure the wedding occurs within the stipulated timeframe. Sheikh Aminudeen warned that failure to comply would be considered contempt of court.
The viral videos that prompted the order depicted the TikTokers engaging in romantic gestures, which authorities described as “contrary to the moral and religious values of Kano State.” Idris Mai Wushirya had previously been remanded in a correctional facility after clips of his acts went viral, which officials described as “immoral and demeaning.”
Sheikh Aminudeen reiterated the Hisbah Board’s commitment to sanitizing Kano from immoral behaviors and social vices. He said, “Residents are advised to refrain from sharing obscene or indecent materials online, and parents must guide their children on proper social media usage.”
In a related development, the Hisbah Board announced plans for an upcoming mass wedding ceremony. The initiative aims to promote moral conduct, assist intending couples who cannot afford formal marriages, and encourage decency across the state.
