Abia State Governor Alex Otti has denied reports claiming he has dumped the Labour Party for the All Progressives Congress.
The governor described the story as false and politically motivated, insisting that he remains a proud and loyal member of the Labour Party, the platform through which he was elected by the people of Abia State.
In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the government described the online reports as the handiwork of political propagandists who feel threatened by Otti’s performance and growing popularity across the state. He noted that such rumours are aimed at causing confusion and distracting the administration from its development goals.
“Governor Alex Otti remains a committed and proud member of the Labour Party, the platform under which the good people of Abia overwhelmingly elected him to serve,” Kanu said. “His focus remains unshaken to rebuild Abia, restore accountability, and deliver the dividends of democracy to every citizen of the state.”
The statement further stressed that the Otti-led government has continued to promote good governance based on transparency, fiscal discipline, infrastructure renewal, economic growth, and youth empowerment. It added that these values are in line with the ideals of the Labour Party, which the governor has no intention of abandoning.
According to Kanu, the false publication was a desperate attempt by political opponents to divert public attention from the progress being recorded in Abia State. He advised residents and supporters to ignore the misleading reports circulating online.
“The Governor remains resolute in his mission to build a new Abia where truth, justice, and equity prevail,” Kanu assured. “He is focused on serving the people, not playing political games.”
