Nigeria’s Super Falcons have officially booked their spot in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after defeating the Benin Republic Women’s National Football Team 3–1 on aggregate across two legs.

In the first leg held in Cotonou, Nigeria secured a 2–0 win, establishing a solid advantage heading into the return leg. The second match took place at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, where the Super Falcons played out a 1–1 draw with Benin, ensuring the aggregate score was enough to advance.
Defender Ashleigh Plumptre gave Nigeria an early lead in the Abeokuta match with a headed goal, putting the team in a comfortable position. Benin Republic managed to pull one goal back through Yasmine Djibril in the 61st minute, but Nigeria maintained control to secure qualification.
Head coach Justine Madugu acknowledged that the team’s performance “fell short of expectations” despite the favorable result. She said, “We knew it was going to be a tough game… the girls gave their best.” Captain Rasheedat Ajibade praised the team’s determination and dedicated the qualification “to every young girl who dares to dream.”
The qualification cements the Super Falcons’ reputation as Africa’s most successful women’s national football team. The squad now turns focus to preparations for the tournament in Morocco, where they aim to defend their crown and continue their dominance on the continental stage.
