King Charles III has officially stripped his younger brother, Prince Andrew, of all his royal titles and privileges while ordering him to vacate his Windsor residence.
This marks a major step by the monarch to distance the royal family from lingering controversies tied to Andrew’s past.
In a statement released by Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, October 30, 2025, the King confirmed that Andrew’s style, titles, and honours have been formally withdrawn. This means the Duke of York will no longer be addressed as “His Royal Highness The Prince Andrew,” nor retain his former royal privileges.
The Palace further disclosed that Prince Andrew has been instructed to vacate his 30-room Royal Lodge residence in Windsor. He is expected to move into private quarters within the Sandringham estate, following a formal notice to surrender his long-term lease.
Sources close to the royal household said the decision followed renewed public criticism over Andrew’s past ties with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, especially after the release of Virginia Giuffre’s memoir, which revived old allegations. Although Andrew has continued to deny all claims, the move is seen as an effort to protect the monarchy’s integrity.
“The King’s decision reflects his commitment to maintaining public trust in the institution,” the statement from Buckingham Palace noted. “His Majesty acknowledges that this was a difficult but necessary step to safeguard the dignity of the Crown.”
Prince Andrew will now go by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor after being stripped of his titles as Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, and Baron Killyleagh, as well as his membership in the Order of the Garter and other honours.
