Magodo Property Development Company, through its counsel Lukman Imam, has petitioned Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, accusing police officers of unlawfully occupying its land at 24 Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
In a letter dated November 14, 2025, Imam stated that his client lawfully purchased the property from the Federal Government for N1.015 billion, but has since faced a competing claim. Despite police investigating the dispute, officers allegedly stormed and sealed the property without legal grounds.
Imam said his client secured a court order from the Federal High Court in Lagos directing that the premises be unsealed. However, he added, the police remained stationed on the land even after the ruling.
The lawyer further accused Adetayo Akerele, chairman of the Lagos State Task Force on Land Grabbers, of deploying police personnel to block access to the site, in defiance of the subsisting court order.
He alleged that during a forceful invasion, officers removed four CCTV cameras, destroyed structures on the property, and continued to occupy it actions he argued violate the IGP’s directive prohibiting the use of policemen to take possession of land.
Imam insisted that the police lacked legal authority to seal or occupy a private property arising from a civil land dispute. He is urging the IGP to investigate thoroughly and to ensure that justice prevails.
