AFCON 2025: Late Zambia Equaliser Denies Mali Victory

Chipolopolo fight back in the dying minutes to deny Mali all three points

Zambia and Mali went head-to-head in a gripping AFCON 2025 group-stage clash that delivered intensity, tactical discipline, and late drama. From the opening whistle, both sides played with urgency, aware that every point could prove decisive in a tightly contested group.

Mali Take Control

Mali gradually asserted themselves, dominating possession and dictating the rhythm of the game. Their physicality in midfield and well-organized back line made it difficult for Zambia to find space, while their attacking build-up showed patience and purpose.

Breakthrough After the Break

The pressure finally told in the second half. Mali carved open the Zambian defense with a swift move down the flank, and the resulting finish was clinical. The goal reflected Mali’s control and seemed to put them firmly on course for all three points.

Zambia Dig Deep

Trailing late in the match, Zambia refused to panic. They pushed higher up the pitch, increased the tempo, and began to test Mali’s defensive resolve. Though chances were limited, belief never faded.

Late Drama, Zambian Joy

Just when Mali appeared set to close out the win, Zambia struck. A late scramble in the box ended with a decisive finish, sending the Zambian bench and fans into wild celebrations. It was a goal born of persistence and hunger.

Two Points Dropped, One Point Gained

For Mali, the draw felt like a missed opportunity after controlling much of the contest. For Zambia, it was a vital point snatched from the brink of defeat—one that could define their AFCON 2025 campaign.

Group Wide Open

The result leaves Group A finely balanced, with momentum swinging and pressure mounting. As AFCON 2025 continues to thrill, Zambia’s late rescue against Mali stands as another reminder: in this tournament, nothing is settled until the final whistle.
