Mr. Oladipupo Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, faced disappointment as his efforts to challenge the March 18 re-election of Governor Dapo Abiodun were thwarted by the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The tribunal, after careful consideration, dismissed Adebutu’s petition, citing its lack of merit and upheld the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of Governor Abiodun as the rightful winner of the election.
This ruling mirrors similar judgements delivered in other states, as the tribunals in Sokoto and Taraba states also ruled in favour of the incumbent governors Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto) and Agbu Kefas (Taraba).
The Ogun State Election Petition Tribunal, in a unanimous decision that took over 11 hours to deliver, determined that the petitioner and his party were unable to substantiate their case beyond a reasonable doubt.
This legal outcome has significant implications for the political landscape in Ogun State and affirms Governor Abiodun’s continued leadership.
