Hope comes alive for the people of Ogun State. The Senate president, Godswill Akpabio, has promised to fix all federal roads in the state, in conjunction with the State government
Akpabio stated this at the grand finale of the Yewa Cultural Festival, with the theme: “Celebration of Culture, Tradition, Music, Cuisine, and Dance”, held at the ultra-modern pavilion at Empire Field, Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State, on Saturday.
Of all the federal roads within, the senate president said he is mostly concerned about the Lagos -Ota -Abokuta road, assuring that all hands would be on deck to that possible
He stated his insistence on personally driving to the venue to gain a firsthand understanding of the daily challenges people faced on the road. He mentioned that it took his team over two hours to travel from Lagos to Ilaro.
Akpabio pledged that the Senate would guarantee that the road’s construction is entrusted to a skilled contractor and collaborate with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration to ensure its timely completion.
He further said: “The 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is going to get the list of things you want us to do here.
“I saw the road, two trucks fell on the road, so we ended up spending over two hours on the road. I was determined to go through the road that you go through. Now, I have seen what you have been seeing. From today, I prophesy that your roads are done.
“Yewaland has the greatest number of industries that local governments can ever have in Nigeria, just five local governments. Therefore, we recognise the need to use the best set of contractors to do your roads because of the wear and tear. I assure you that we will be working with our brother, Dapo Abiodun. Your lives will not be the same again.”
Previously, Abiodun appealed to the Senate to intervene with the federal government in order to transfer the responsibility for reconstructing the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta road to the state, emphasising its significance for the state’s socio-economic growth.
The governor shared that it took him three hours to travel from Abeokuta to Ilaro, expressing frustration with the state’s unsuccessful efforts to facilitate the road’s transfer.
