The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has taken disciplinary action against some of its officers as part of its ongoing efforts to maintain discipline among its personnel and uphold international correctional best practices.
According to a statement by the NCoS spokesman, Abubakar Umar, the sanctioned officers were found to have engaged in various misconducts, including trafficking in contraband items, unauthorized absence from duty, theft, negligence of duty, criminal conspiracy, and aiding and abetting.
These offenses were deemed as posing serious threats to the security of correctional facilities, potentially jeopardizing public safety and national security.
The Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, emphasized the commitment of the NCoS to reward diligence and outstanding performances while holding erring personnel accountable in accordance with existing laws.
He underlined the determination of the service to identify and remove any personnel that could tarnish its reputation or compromise its integrity, leaving no room for individuals with questionable conduct within the system.
This move reflects the NCoS’s dedication to maintaining high standards within the correctional system and ensuring that the safety and security of its facilities are not compromised by the actions of its own personnel.
